Maysa Akbar, PhD, ABPP, author of Urban Trauma: A Legacy of Racism, is the Founder and CEO of Integrated Wellness Group, a multidisciplinary psychotherapy practice in New Haven which focuses on at-risk urban children, adults, and families.
In addition to her private practice, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Yale School of Medicine, Child Study Center. Dr. Akbar is a graduate of State University of New York at Albany, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, and Saint Louis University. She completed both her pre and post doctoral training at Yale Child Study Center.
Active in her community, Dr. Akbar serves on the Board of Directors of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. A triathlete, she lives in New Haven with her husband and two children.
Kyisha has a Masters of Science degree in Psychology from Walden University, a Masters of Science in Human Services from Post University, and is currently completing her PhD in Psychology. As a dedicated lifelong resident of New Haven Kyisha has previously worked with numerous organizations whose work exemplifies her passion for healthy relationships, youth accountability, parental and youth rights, and educational advancement for all. Her experience includes child-specific behavioral assessments, as well as coaching and training professionals in implementing restorative practice strategies and behavioral management recommendations.
In addition to overseeing Clinical and Consultation Services at IWG, including Early Childhood, Kyisha provides mental health counseling to individuals, couples, families, and groups plus has coordinated a variety of services to community partners across the state.
Michelle Baker, EdD, earned her doctorate in education from Southern Connecticut State University and her Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of New Haven. Dr. Baker has worked in New Haven for over twenty year’s servicing the juvenile justice population. She has extensive experience in directing programs geared towards reducing recidivism.
Dr. Baker has also conducted research on how to assist public schools reintegrate adolescent African American males post incarceration. Dr. has provided educational mentoring to school-age children and in additions to her current duties, she also works as an educational advisor for Naugatuck Valley Community College, preparing high school students for post-secondary education.
Lisa F. Votto, Licensed Marital and Family Therapist
Lisa joins the Integrated Wellness Group team as the Director of Clinical Services. Lisa has a Masters Degree in Family Therapy from Southern Connecticut State University. Lisa comes to IWG with 25 years of professional experience working with children, youth, and families. A long-time resident of New Haven, Lisa has dedicated her career to serving her community. Her experience includes child protection, juvenile justice and adolescent services, foster care services, and substance abuse treatment. Lisa’s passion for empowering individuals and families in crisis is the foundation for all her work. Lisa is highly tuned into issues of racial injustice and urban trauma and is skilled in working with people from all walks of life. Lisa enthusiastically brings her clinical and leadership strengths to her new position.
